Lots more pots

Three pots biscuit fired... much tidier than the first 2

Now all I have to do is work out what glazes I intend to use

Trying a new technique......... pot with rim from lid

Need to work faster and with less water so there is less wobbles

Turning

The pots have been left to go leather hard, this is when the clay has on about 15% of the water left in it, by leaving it covered in a plastic bag for a week, then the process of turning can begin.

Both pots have been turned so they have a foot ring, once the glaze is applied to the rest of the pot, the foot ring is left without so the pot will not stick to the kiln shelf.

These will now be left to air dry, until the bone dry state has been reach 0% water left in the clay. Once this stage has been reached they will be fired in the kiln.

Today's pot thrown, there is a marked colour difference in the clay from the above pots, this is fresh clay.

Back to throwing pots.

As my hobby has now become my profession I have gone back to ceramics as a hobby.

 Started a college course 4th February 2013

First week

First pot thrown for about 5 years........ not too bad

Second pot thrown..... had a better finish to the base but has issues!

This is known as greenware. It will be allowed to dry out gradually, by leaving it covered in plastic for a week.
